I am joining in with the Art With Heart Team’s Colour Creations Blog Hop with this Bubble Bath gilded leafing with Rays of Light thank you card.
The Bubble Bath colour is a new addition to Stampin’ Ups!® Subtles colour family and is our focus for today’s hop.
I have gone with a simple card using an embossed card base, gilded leafing and heat embossed sentiment.
Gilded leafing is something I have avoided since that disastrous time I tried to carefully place it on the card I was making. I had no idea how to use it and it was WAY different to what I was expecting. My brain quickly threw gilded leafing into the too hard basket where it has remained for several years!
However, there have been times when I have admired others creations, but run a mile when I have discovered they have used gilded leafing!
I had decided it just wasn’t for me!
So, when I was gifted some by my dear best friend, I thought I had better face my nemesis! Ah, YouTube how I love you so!
The first thing I learned was to put your container of gilded leafing into a box that would be large enough for a card to lie down in.
The second thing I learned was to have a firm brush and a soft brush handy.
The third thing I learned was there were three main ways to apply gilded leafing:
- 1. Heat and stick powder
- 2. Multipurpose glue
- 3. Adhesive tape or sheets
The fourth thing I learned was I can’t work out heat and stick powder. The concept is great but it just didn’t work for me. I either have dud heat and stick powder or I just didn’t use it properly. I will research this one later and let you know how I get on.
Multipurpose glue came to my rescue (good ol’ faithful). I cannot love this glue enough, I’m telling ya! But there is a learning curve with gilded leafing and multipurpose glue.
What You Need
- Stamps/Bundles: Rays of Light, Good Feelings
- Inks: Bubble Bath, Melon Mambo
- Paper: Bubble Bath, Crumb Cake, Melon Mambo, Basic White
- Other: Cane Weave 3D embossing folder, 2 3/8” circle punch, embossing tool kit, clear embossing powder, heat gun, gilded leafing, iridescent pearls, Multi-purpose liquid glue, white twine
Gilded Leafing With Rays of Light Card Recipe
- Begin with a Crumb Cake card base (29.5 cm x 10.5 cm). Dry emboss the front of the card.
- Score at 14.8 cm on the long side.
- Cut Melon Mambo 5 cm x 10.5 cm. Randomly dot with tiny glue spots using multipurpose glue. Leave aside to dry.
- Cut Basic White 11.8 cm x 9.5 cm. Stamp with Rays of Light inked up with Bubble Bath.
- Punch Bubble Bath card stock using 2 3/8” circle punch. Stamp sentiment in Melon Mambo. Repeat stamp of sentiment with versamark.
- Sprinkle clear embossing powder over the sentiment and use heat tool to set.
- Adhere stamped Basic White layer to card base.
- Check that the glue on the Melon Mambo piece is tacky. Use a heat tool to speed up the process, if required.
- Place the Melon Mambo piece face down into the box of gilded leafing, pressing gently down onto the leafing.
- Turn it over and use your finger to rub the leafing into the glue and off the card stock. Use a firm brush to assist the process of removing unwanted gilding.
- Use a soft brush (the one in the embossing tool kit works great) to remove excess gilding from the card stock.
- Wrap white twine around the card and adhere the stamped sentiment circle.
- Add a few pearls to embellish.
Thank you for stopping by today. I am excited to explore ways you can save time and organise your card making supplies so that busy card makers like you can make more cards, more often. That’s what it means to be ‘eager to stamp’!
